Which OS is better Windows or Mac? The Google way.

Go to Google and type windows problem, right now you'll get 316 million results.

Now still in Google type mac problem, you'll get 151 million results.

So from the data can we know which OS is better? Absolutely not, because you have to consider which OS has more users, all the versions of their operative systems, maybe Windows has more? Is the information from Google good to use as a statistical tool (search results may include for example "windows has many problems, use mac", that would give us false positives because it would match as mac problems)? Users search skills (any difference between Windows users skills and Mac users skills)?

There are many variables but I will only investigate the most obvious one, which OS has more users? Using many query results.

So I'm going to use these results and a couple more:

mac is crap 6,130,000 results

osx is crap 434,000 results

VS

windows is crap 9,300,000 results

*****

"os x" is crap 55,900,000 results

VS

"windows 7" is crap 144,000,000 results (newer os)

"windows Vista" is crap 93,200,000 results

"windows xp" is crap 144,000,000 results (older os)

*****

"os x is crap" 450 results

VS

"windows 7 is crap" 1,080 results (newer os)

"windows vista is crap" 20,900 results

"windows xp is crap" 700 results (older os)

*****

"mac is crap" 3,020

VS

"windows is crap" 15,300 results

So just Google for "mac windows users statistics 2010" I'm going to use the results from Wikipedia, here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems

I consider this is the best site because it includes the newest data from different sites and also includes a "median" from all of them. I'll use the median info.

From the information you can see that 90.88% of the users use Windows and only 5.8% of them use MAC OS, so what does this mean?

Here we go:

mac is crap 6,130,000 results = if mac and windows had the same amount of users, mac should have 593,529 results instead it has 6,130,000. mac loses.

osx is crap 434,000 results = if osx and windows had the same amount of users, osx should have 6,800,331 results instead it has 434,000. osx wins.

windows is crap 9,300,000 results = if mac and windows had the same amount of users, windows should have 145,721,379 results instead it has 9,300,000. windows wins.

*****

"os x" is crap 55,900,000 results = if "os x" and "windows 7" had the same amount of users, "os x" should have 3,567,561 results instead it has 55,900,000. "os x" loses.

"windows 7" is crap 144,000,000 results = if "os x" and "windows 7" had the same amount of users, "windows 7" should have 2,254,344,828 results instead it has 144,000,000. "windows 7" wins.

"windows vista" is crap 93,200,000 results = if "os x" and "windows vista" had the same amount of users, "windows vista" should have 1,459,062,069 results instead it has 93,200,000. "windows vista" wins.

"windows xp" is crap 144,000,000 results = if "os x" and "windows xp" had the same amount of users, "windows xp" should have 2,254,344,828 results instead it has 144,000,000. "windows xp" wins.

*****

"os x is crap" 450 results = if "os x is crap" and "windows 7 is crap" had the same amount of users, "os x is crap" should have 68.92 results instead it has 450 results. "os x" loses.

"windows 7 is crap" 1,080 results = if "os x is crap" and "windows 7 is crap" had the same amount of users, "windows 7 is crap" should have 16,922 results instead it has 1,080 results. "windows 7" wins.

"windows vista is crap" 20,900 results = if "os x is crap" and "windows vista is crap" had the same amount of users, "windows vista is crap" should have 327,481 results instead it has 20,900 results. "windows vista" wins.

"windows xp is crap" 700 results = if "os x is crap" and "windows xp is crap" had the same amount of users, "windows xp is crap" should have 10,968 results instead it has 700 results. "windows xp" wins.

*****

"mac is crap" 3,020 results = if "mac is crap" and "windows is crap" had the same amount of users, "mac is crap" should have 192 results instead it has 3,020 results. "mac" loses.

"windows is crap" 15,300 results = if "mac is crap" and "windows is crap" had the same amount of users, "windows is crap" should have 239,735 results instead it has 15,300 results. "windows" wins.

*****

windows problem 316,000,000 results = if mac and windows had the same amount of users, windows should have 4,951,393,103 results instead it has 316,000,000. Windows wins.

mac problem 151,000,000 results = if mac and windows had the same amount of users, mac should have 9,636,883 results instead it has 151,000,000. Mac loses.

"windows problem" 228,000 results = if mac and windows had the same amount of users, windows should have 3,572,524 results instead it has 228,000. Windows wins.

"mac problem" 49,400 results = if mac and windows had the same amount of users, mac should have 3,155 results instead it has 49,400. Mac loses.

I know there are certain problems with some of my queries, for example when I look for windows without quotes, the results include house windows problems, also when I search for osx the results may not be correct and maybe I should have searched for "os x" instead, but anyways I believe I included enough "quoted" queries. Also Google may restrict the maximum amount of results (not that I know). There may be an error on my calculations (if you find any tell me) but I don't think it can change the results in a significant way.

So from the results I can tell the only category where Mac wins is in the osx is crap (no quotes) with only 434,000 results.

The rest of the results favor Windows mostly in a big way.

Does this reflects the reality? Is Windows better than Mac OS? Is anyone manipulating the results? Any query suggestion? What do you think?
